The Future Generations Tribunal is a growing, global effort to carry today’s truths into tomorrow’s systems. Working alongside communities most impacted by the climate crisis and other intersecting harms, we gather lived experience, transform it into evidence, and move it forward through law, policy, and collective action.
What will tomorrow ask of us Today?
This work is built collectively and carried forward together.
-
We convene community-led processes that make space for testimony, truth-telling, and collective analysis across generations.
Inside this work:
Regional Tribunals that gather lived experience, expert insight, and community demands in a structured public process
Translation and interpretation to ensure language is not a barrier to justice
Wellbeing and psychosocial support so participation is held with care, not extraction
Collective outcomes like declarations, regional reports, and testimony archives that communities can carry forward
-
We transform lived experience into evidence that can be carried into law, advocacy, and institutional accountability without flattening culture, context, or complexity.
Inside this work:
Testimony and story documentation across formats, including oral histories and community narratives
Data and case mapping that links lived experience to patterns of harm, responsibility, and systemic drivers
Community review and consent processes that respect data sovereignty and participant safety
[Coming Soon] Evolving online archival database to preserve testimony in ways that communities control
Research briefs and explainers that translate complex law and policy into usable tools
-
We carry what communities share into the spaces where decisions are made, without separating law from movement power.
Inside this work:
Rights-based framing for future generations grounded in human rights and plural legal traditions
Legal and policy pathways that translate collective demands into actionable strategies
Strategic partnerships with advocates, organizers, researchers, and institutions to move outcomes forward
Public education and narrative work that makes the law accessible and mobilizing
Movement support that helps communities use testimony as leverage in their ongoing struggles for justice, repair, and accountability

East Africa
Regional Tribunal
Held during the final week of October 2025, the Future Generations Tribunal convened its first Regional Tribunal in East Africa, bringing together youth leaders, community members, legal experts, translators, and wellbeing practitioners to document lived experience and examine harm, responsibility, and justice across generations.
The Tribunal created a public, participatory process rooted in care and accountability, grounding legal and policy pathways in regional knowledge and community testimony.
East Africa
Regional Declaration
Emerging from the Regional Tribunal, the East Africa Declaration was shaped through three days of public testimony, followed by a period of collective drafting carried forward offline in collaboration with participants, experts, and the Tribunal team.
The Declaration captures shared demands, responsibilities, and pathways for repair, serving as both a public record and a living tool that carries regional truths into legal, policy, and movement spaces where accountability must be pursued.
